Express liking for something - gern/nicht gern



In German use the word gern with any verb to express a liking for the action of the verb. Examples:

Ich spiele Gitarre. = I play guitar.

A pretty ordinary sentence. To say that you like playing guitar, add the word gern after the verb:

Ich spiele gern Gitarre. = I like to play guitar

With the word gern, you can say that you like DOING the action of any verbal phrase. And with the words nicht gern you can express the opposite: a disliking of the action of the verb. With the sentences to your left, express a disliking for the action of the verb. For example, Ich besuche nicht gern Freunde. Practice saying these expressions aloud. Make up other combinations also.
