Sein - to be


The verb sein - to be is one of the most important verbs in the German language. It is also one of the most frequently used verbs in English. You need to memorize the conjugation of this verb in all its tenses. Compare both the English and German forms of sein/to be. Its conjugation is highly irregular in both languages. It doesn't follow the conjugation patterns of other verbs in the present tense.

Talking to someone, or a group of people. These people could be your friends, siblings, animals, children, parents, anyone you are on intimate terms with.

Talking about someone or a group of people.

Talking to someone or a group of people. These are people you are not on intimate terms with: adults you don't know, people in power, teachers/professors, etc.
