Expectations - Course Outline - Wednesday, January 20, 1999

Types of Assignments:

  1. Grammar Work:

Each day you will have a set of grammar exercises to do from your workbook. You may work with two partners on these exercises, quietly and cooperatively. Keep in mind I will be working with my German 2 class closely while you work.

read closely and silently the grammar explanations before undertaking the exercises.

The exercises will be done on separate sheets of paper; on each paper you will write your name, your partners' names, the assignment page numbers, and also the topic of the grammar assignment at the top of the page.

When you are finished you staple the papers together and give them to me.

  2. Short Stories:

At some point in the near future, you will begin writing short stories in German. Each of you will be expected to write a short story. You will use vocabulary and grammatical structures learned in your workbooks. You will also gather ideas from the short story you will first read and study, Münhchausens Abenteuer.

  3. Münchhausens Abenteuer

A short story you will read; each day you will have short passage to read. You may read it when finished with your classwork. For each section you read, you will write out a vocabulary list while you read it; then afterwards, look the words up, then read the passage again. In this way you will develop a higher level of reading comprehension and increase your vocabulary.

  4. Internet Assignments

As the semester progresses you will do some WWW assignments in our class. Most of these assignments will entail answering some questions based on websites I find for you on special topics. You may consult the pacing guide at your website to examine the topics we will discuss in class this semester.

As always, your cooperation is essential. Any disruption in this class will be dealt with sternly. I cannot nor will not tolerate loud obnoxious behavior in this class. I have German 2 to teach also.

Your first assignment:

  1. Workbook, pages 2-7, Exercises A, B (evens), C (odds), D
  2. Münchhausens Abenteuer, pages 6-7.
  3. Make a vocabulary list from these pages; define the words using the German-English dictionary in the back your workbook.

Homework:

  1. Finish the readings.
  2. Workbook, Exercise E.
